So, you have probably heard us talk about HS, DTC, LID. I800...and more to come as we continue along our journey...but what do they all mean? Let me do my best to explain
Home Study- A detailed look at each member of the family. Covers everything from medical, personal, financial and employment history. This is a vital part of your Dossier.
Dossier - A packet of documents that includes your home study, police records, birth certificates, marriage license, financial information, employment verification and approval from homeland security to adopt. These documents and several other incidentals are sent to China as your "application" for adoption.
I 800 A- An application to the United States Customs and Immigration Department that deems one worthy to adopt from a particular country, in our case China.
DTC- Dossier to China- The date your Dossier is sent to China.
LID- Log in Date- The official date China recognizes your dossier and logs it into their system.
LOI- Letter of Intent- The Letter we will write asking for permission to adopt a particular child. (This happens right after referral)
PA - Pre Approval- China's initial approval of your adoption.
LOA- Letter of Acceptance- China's permission for you to adopt a particular child.
I800- An application to have your child viewed as an immediate family member. This application is filed with the same government agency as the I 800A.
NVC- National Visa Center- Where you petition for a Visa. This group then cables (fancy word for email) the US Embassy in China to let them know the petition has been approved.
Article 5- is the consulate pre approving your child for an immigrant visa.
TA- Travel Approval- You are approved to travel to China to get your child!
CA- Consulate Appointment- The date of your appointment at the US embassy to finalize your adoption
GOTTCHA or Forever Family Day- The day you meet your new child!
